"For decades, we've fought cancer with groundbreaking new drugs, bringing new hope to patients and families. But behind this hope, a hidden crisis is growing: the price of these breakthroughs is skyrocketing, and it's a cost that simply doesn't add up.
Let's look at the evidence. Over the past 20 years, the price of new cancer drugs has exploded, far outpacing inflation and average wages. What was once a significant medical expense is now a staggering financial burden.All too often, these soaring costs are not matched by a proportional increase in how long patients live. The immense financial burden on families and our healthcare system is simply not justified by a significant improvement in overall survival. In short, the value is broken.
This is more than just a healthcare issue; it's about building a smarter, more fair system. So, where do we go from here? We have the power to advocate for a new approach. This means championing transparency, supporting reform, and empowering everyone to ask: 'Is this cost worth the survival benefit?
By working together, we can ensure that the goal of a longer life doesn't come at the price of a lifetime of debt."
